Blockchain technology as it stands now is most commonly used to secure the ledgers of digital currency trading platforms. More broadly, blockchain allows the creation of secure ledgers that hold information.

Applied to education, blockchain secures information about identity and educational credentials earned by students. Blockchain ledgers are widely considered unhackable, immutable, secure, and scalable for massive data sets. Amid the current scandal regarding the integrity of elite admissions processes, blockchain offers a way to ensure the veracity of information being exchanged between these institutions and their students.

At present, students have to ask universities to provide their transcripts and diplomas, which costs time and money. With a blockchain-secured platform, students gain complete access to information about their identity and credentials; they can then choose to give access to potential employers and universities for admissions. Blockchain technology will allow students to take control of a portfolio which is in turn authenticated by the academic institutions.

IntellADAPT founder Nish Sonwalkar will dive into the pros and cons of blockchain technology for the management of identity and credentials for learners from K-12 to higher education. Join us for this fascinating discussion on the future of education.
